"You have a great employee who just isn't doing the job the way you need them to, and you're frustrated. My question is, do you actually need to let them go, or are they simply the wrong person in the wrong seat? One of my favorite tools for figuring this out is the Hogan Assessment. It looks at a person's values and motives, their leadership strengths, how they communicate, how they learn, and importantly, who they become under pressure. Here's why that last part matters so much. Once someone understands their own tendencies under stress, they can catch themselves faster and course correct. And the people around them know how to support them instead of just reacting. This isn't a personality quiz for fun. It's a real tool for putting the right person in the right seat. If you want to bring this kind of clarity to your leadership team, I'd love to talk with you about the Hogan Assessment."

Eighty two percent of managers are promoted into leadership without ever receiving formal leadership training. They were great at their job, so they got the promotion. We call this the accidental manager. If that's you, or someone on your team, here's a simple 90 day plan. First, train on giving real feedback, since that peer relationship is about to shift into something new. Second, build an efficient one on one structure that actually creates momentum instead of just checking a box. Third, understand how that person handles conflict, and the Thomas Kilmann assessment is a great tool for that.Ninety days of intentional support can be the difference between someone thriving in the role and someone quietly drowning in it.I'm Cathi Williams, and I'd love to help you build this kind of onboarding for your new managers.

When family businesses think succession, they picture the top seat. But nearly half say developing their leaders is one of their biggest challenges, and the gap is rarely at the top. It's in the middle. Whoever runs your company in ten years is probably already on your payroll right now, carrying too much and waiting to see if you'll invest in them. Succession is not a document your attorney drafts. It is a bench you build, years before you need it. Every manager who burns out and walks away is a succession option gone. Name your bench this quarter. The three to five people who could run something bigger in five years. Then develop them visibly, with real coaching and real assessment data. Who on your team could you be building toward? #SuccessionPlanning #FamilyBusiness #MiddleManagers #LeadershipDevelopment #HappyHealthyLeadership

Middle manager burnout is the quietest problem in your company, and the most expensive. The manager you are least worried about might be the one closest to walking out the door. Gallup found that 45 percent of middle managers report burnout, more than any other group in the company. And here is the part most owners miss. By the time a good manager tells you they are done, they decided months ago. The resignation is the last step, not the first. The strong ones rarely raise their hand, so the warning signs stay hidden until it is too late. An open door policy catches nobody. A calendar invite does. Put a real check in with every manager once a quarter and ask two honest questions. What is draining you right now, and what would make this job sustainable for another year? Then fix one thing they name. When did you last ask your strongest manager how they are actually doing, and wait for a real answer? #ManagerBurnout #MiddleManagers #EmployeeRetention #EmployeeEngagement #Leadership #HappyHealthyLeadership

Everyone tells you to manage your stress. That's the wrong advice, and here's why. You can't manage what you've never measured. Most of us walk around with a vague feeling of overwhelmed instead of the actual facts about what's really on our plate. When I hit a big life change recently, I didn't get better by managing a feeling. I got better by getting specific, naming exactly what was actually in front of me, task by task, fact by fact. Once I had the real numbers instead of a foggy sense of too much, I could finally act. That's the same shift I help leaders and teams make: trading the fog for the facts so stress stops running the show. If you're a leader carrying more than you can name right now, start here: write down what's actually on your plate. That's step one. I'm Cathi Williams, founder of Happy Healthy Leadership. I help mid level managers and their teams build the honest, healthy leadership that keeps good people from burning out and walking out. Want to go deeper? Want to know the fastest way to teach your managers to stop being honest with you? Ask for their opinion. Then correct their answer. Do it a few times and people still answer your questions. But now they are guessing what you want to hear. Your meetings get quieter and more agreeable, and that is not alignment. That is self protection. The same reflex is why a manager will not tell you they are exhausted. If saying "I am at my limit" gets met with a quick fix or a "we are all busy," they learn to hide it. And hidden exhaustion has one exit, the resignation letter. A safe space is not a poster in the break room. It is what you do in the ten seconds after someone takes a risk on you. So the next time you ask for an opinion, receive it before you respond. Let their answer stand in the room for a moment before you add yours. When did you last let someone's honest answer just sit there, without fixing it? #PsychologicalSafety #Leadership #MiddleManagers #EmployeeRetention #HappyHealthyLeadership

Vulnerability in leadership isn’t weakness, it’s the key to building psychological safety. Brené Brown talks about how great leaders create space for open conversations. It’s so easy to put ourselves last, especially as parents or business owners. Whether it’s finishing the kids’ leftovers or skipping the gym because it feels easier, we slowly push aside our goals. The problem? Each time we start over, it’s harder to rebuild momentum. How do you hold yourself accountable for self-care?" #SelfCare #WorkLifeBalance #HealthyHabits
